Call For Award Nominations

Each year NYSENA presents awards at the annual conference. Our time to shine is fast approaching! Do you have a colleague who is an exemplary Emergency Nurse? Nominate them for a NYSENA Recognition Award and let the NYSENA community know how they shine.

Nominations for the 2026 conference awards are now open and must be submitted on or before Monday, March 16th, 2026. Nomination forms and criteria can be found below or on the NYSENA website under the Forms Tab, or by clicking here.

Anita Dorr Award

Anita M. Dorr, RN, began in January, 1970, to meet formally with emergency nurses in the Buffalo, New York area to provide in-service education, support, and advocacy to Emergency Nurses. This award, named after one of ENA's co-founders, honors a member of New York State ENA, who has consistently demonstrated excellence in emergency nursing, and has made significant contributions to the profession and reflects the integrity and commitment to New York State ENA, honoring the memory of its' founder, Anita Dorr.

Requirements:

  • Nominee must be a New York State ENA member.
  • Nominator must be a New York State ENA member.
  • A narrative statement addressing the criteria below.
  • CV / Resume of the Nominee must be uploaded at the end of the application (name and identifying information must be removed).

We suggest 200 words for each criterion response.

  • Provide specific example(s) of the outstanding knowledge and expertise in New York State emergency nursing practice, advocacy, education or research demonstrated by the nominee.
  • Provide specific example(s) of how the nominee has been an exceptional role model for New York State emergency nurses.

Ann Ryan Pediatric Award

Throughout her professional life, Anne Ryan displayed an unwavering commitment to education and patient care with a special place in her heart for pediatric patients. She was instrumental in bringing ENPC to New York. This award recognizes excellence in pediatric clinical practice and advocacy for pediatric Emergency Nursing.

Requirements

  • Nominee must be a New York State ENA member.
  • Nominator must be a New York State ENA member.
  • A Narrative Statement addressing the criteria below.
  • CV / Resume of the Nominee must be uploaded at the end of the application (name and identifying information must be removed).

We suggest 200 words for each criterion response.

  • Provide specific example(s) of how the nominee exemplifies outstanding nursing practice as demonstrated through clinical skills, care, and compassion.
  • Provide specific example(s) of how the nominee is recognized by peers as an expert in pediatric emergency nursing and consistently exhibits traits associated with professional behavior and commitment to professional values.

Ginny Hens EMS Award

Virginia "Ginny" Hens was an early advocate of Emergency Nursing and EMS collaboration in New York. This award is given to a New York Emergency Nurse who promotes collaboration and professionalism between first responders and Emergency Nurses.

Requirements

  • Nominee must be a New York State ENA member.
  • Nominator must be a New York State ENA member.
  • A Narrative Statement addressing the criteria below.
  • CV / Resume of the Nominee must be uploaded at the end of the application (name and identifying information must be removed).

  • Provide specific example(s) of how the nominee: a) demonstrates excellence as an educator, mentor, preceptor, or instructor serving as a resource for New York EMS teams or other first responders.
  • Provide specific example(s) of where the nominee has demonstrated collaboration through publications or pertinent educational projects.

Nursing Education Award

Recognizes an New York State emergency nurse who has made significant contributions to the education of colleagues, nursing students, EMS personnel, patients, families or the community through the publication of articles, formal or informal courses or the development of a specific emergency nursing program or curriculum.

Requirements

  • Nominee must be a New York State ENA member.
  • Nominator must be a New York State ENA member.
  • A Narrative Statement addressing the criteria below.
  • CV / Resume of the Nominee must be uploaded at the end of the application (name and identifying information must be removed).

We suggest 200 words for each criterion response.

Narrative Statements / Criteria:

Narrative statements should address each criterion listed below:

  • Provide specific example(s) of how the nominee:
    a) demonstrates excellence as an educator, mentor, preceptor, or instructor, serving as a resource for New York emergency nurses, EMS teams or other health care professionals, either within work or outside of paid work time. OR
    b) developed or implemented educational programs, especially those that are innovative in nature, for nursing students and/or patients and their families.
  • Provide specific example(s) of where the nominee has demonstrated nursing expertise through publications or significant educational projects.
  • Provide specific example(s) of how the nominee participated in the development or implementation of educational programs related to the specialty of emergency care.

Rising Star Award

This award is given to a nurse who has been a Member of New York ENA for less than 5 years and demonstrates commitment to the professional practice of Emergency Nursing.

Requirements

  • Nominee must be a New York State ENA member for less than 5 years.
  • Nominator must be a New York State ENA member.
  • A Narrative Statement addressing the criteria below.
  • CV / Resume of the Nominee must be uploaded at the end of the application (name and identifying information must be removed).

We suggest 200 words for each criterion response.

Narrative statements should address each criterion listed below:

  • Provide specific example(s) of the how the nominee exemplifies outstanding nursing practice as demonstrated through clinical skills, care and compassion.
  • Provide specific example(s) of how the nominee has shown commitment to the Emergency Nurses Association.

Special Recognition Award

Recognizes an individual who has demonstrated commitment to Emergency Nursing. This person is an advocate who is often seen but not heard, and who donates countless hours to nurses in achieving excellence in Emergency Nursing, Requirements:

  • Nominee does not need to be an ENA member.
  • Nominator must be a New York State ENA member.
  • Nominee does not need to-be a nurse.
  • CV / Resume summary not required.
  • Nominee has donated hours of time without expectation of compensation or reward.
  • Narrative statement addressing criteria below.

Narrative statements should address each criterion listed below:

  • Provide specific example(s) that the nominee's donation of time or effort had a direct impact on meeting the local or New York State ENA goals.
  • Provide specific example(s) of:
    a) the nominee's willingness to go the extra mile. OR
    b) the nominee's participation in activities that contributed to local or state ENA goals.
  • Provide specific example(s) of activities the nominee was involved in that had a positive effect in supporting New York State ENA's mission to lead the advancement of excellence in emergency nursing.
